As April showers drenched the streets, a seemingly minor freeway collision was about to ignite a legal storm. On a gloomy, rainy afternoon, a Honda Accord and a Mini Cooper found themselves in an unexpected confrontation on the slick, wet freeway. The impact was slight—just a small rear-end bump—but it set the stage for a legal battle that would require more than just the usual attention to detail.
The driver of the Mini Cooper claimed serious injuries from the minor crash, and the case quickly took on a life of its own. The plaintiff’s attorney sought Garrett’s help to investigate the incident and uncover the truth behind the injuries.
In a season of new beginnings and fresh perspectives, we called in one of our trusted experts to examine the case. This expert, specializing in Event Data Recorders (EDRs), reviewed the Mini Cooper’s crash data and delivered a surprising revelation—the collision’s delta-v (the change in speed) was less than 5 mph. In essence, it was more of a gentle nudge than a traumatic impact. The likelihood of serious injury from such a low-speed collision was almost nonexistent.
But the investigation didn’t stop with the crash data. Our Biomechanical expert also dug into the driver’s medical history, examining over 50 documents in total! What was uncovered was telling: the driver of the Mini Cooper had a long history of pre-existing degenerative conditions, and the injuries she claimed were far more likely linked to her ongoing health issues than to the minor accident.
With clear and irrefutable evidence, Garrett’s Expert helped clarify the situation. The case that initially seemed to have potential liability was now firmly in favor of the defendant and this was a huge victory for our Client.
Just as April showers give way to sunnier days, the truth behind this minor collision came to light, bringing a swift and clear resolution to a complex legal matter. Another storm weathered, another case resolved, and tens of thousands of dollars saved for our Client!
